Topi Beaded Dog Collar

2 customer reviews

The Topi beaded collar is designed with vertical stripes and circles in earth colors, which are surrounded by dark maroon beads included in the pattern on black leather. These hand-beaded collars from The Kenyan Collection® are the perfect choice for everyday use.  Made in Africa by the Maasai Mamas, each collar is uniquely designed to be a work-of-art. They are as durable, as they are exquisite.

Made of either black or brown leather, the bead designs are hand-sewn into a layer of the leather, anchoring the beads every 3 to 4 beads for strength. An overlay of leather is then added, glued and stitched to the backing for long-lasting comfort and durability.  Each collar is hand finished with solid hand-cast buckles made from recycled brass.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to maintain the integrity of the Maasai tribe, we offer Maasai beaded products as custom items to ensure continued sustainability for the Maasai Mamas.  Delivery may take up to 8 weeks.

A large stock list of products is maintained, however, from time to time your order might need to be produced in Kenya. We will send you an email typically within 72 hours to let you know if your order is currently unavailable. Orders that are in production in Kenya may take 1 to 8 weeks for delivery.  Thanks for your understanding and for shopping with us.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS  – The Maasai Mamas

The Maasai are an ethnic group which inhabit southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.  In the Maasai culture, their distinctive customs and dress sets them apart. Their beaded creations distinguish age, marital and their social status, in other words. By partnering with The Kenyan Collection, they’ve been able to earn a living and compete in the global marketplace.  They live and work near their homes where they gather in small groups to share advice and stories.  As the Mamas bead the leather provided to them, their one-of a kind designs are created for The Kenyan Collection.

Measure your current collar

If you are satisfied with the fit of your dog’s current buckle collar, you can measure the collar itself to get a new collar that fits the same.

For a standard buckle collar (with holes like a belt), measure from the buckle’s center bar, where it connects to the collar, to the hole that you are currently using.

For a side-release buckle collar (with two ends that clip together), measure from the end of the female part of the buckle to the opposite end of the collar, excluding the male part of the buckle.

Measure twice, buy once

When it comes time to getting a new collar, take a few minutes to make sure you’re getting the right size and your dog will thank you!

Collars can stretch over time and sizing can vary by style and manufacturer, so even if your dog’s current collar fits and you know its size, it’s important to take a new measurement before buying a collar.

For a buckle collar, follow the measurement instructions above to measure your dog’s neck or current collar and then check our size chart to see what collar length will fit. Check your dog’s collar regularly for fit and wear.

Measuring your dog

The best way to ensure a good fit is by measuring your dog directly. Measure at the narrowest point of your dog’s neck, just as tight or loose as you would like the new collar to fit. The collar should be snug, without being so tight that it will cause discomfort or loose enough to slide over your dog’s head.

As a rule of thumb, a well-fitting collar should leave just enough room for you to slide two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.

About our collar sizing:

IMPORTANT: MEASURE YOUR DOG’S NECK AND ORDER CLOSEST TO THAT MEASUREMENT. Don't add anything, don't measure the total length of the current collar. For odd sizes, we suggest you round up to the next size. If you must use a current collar in ordering, then measure only the length from the beginning of the leather/material at the buckle end to the hole that fits or is used at the other end.
